This is apparently a great week for new films and the release of their trailers. Yesterday, two film trailers were released, and they were both exciting, but today, something very interesting came to the party. Last year, it was announced that Caitlin Cronenberg would be making her feature film debut. Yes, that Cronenberg and I definitely took notice. Well, today, the first trailer for Caitlin Cronenberg’s HUMANE was released, and what a time to be alive. IFC Films Will Release HUMANE in select theaters on Friday, April 26th. The film is written and produced by Michael Sparaga
The film is being released by IFC Films and Shudder, and here is the synopsis: HUMANE takes place over a single day, mere months after a global ecological collapse has forced world leaders to take extreme measures to reduce the earth’s population. In a wealthy enclave, a recently retired newsman has invited his grown children to dinner to announce his intentions to enlist in the nation’s new euthanasia program. But when the father’s plan goes horribly awry, tensions flare, and chaos erupts among his children.
HUMANE stars Jay Baruchel (Blackberry), Emily Hampshire (Schitt’s Creek), Peter Gallagher (Grace and Frankie), and Enrico Colantoni (Station Eleven). I was not expecting Enrico Colantoni to be in a film about climate collapse and a government euthanasia plan, but here we are. This film is eminently topical and looks hilarious. I love that sprightly music in the trailer.
