Climate change is real, you guys.
But here’s the food. Culver City’s Breakaway Cafe has a great special today. They always have great specials, but this one caught my eye for breakfast. It’s a Summer Peach Bread Pudding and it is not only delicious but very pretty.
Breakaway Cafe is a breakfast and lunch restaurant founded by brothers Zach and Nick Bayse. I wrote about the charming cafe back in April and they’ve been doing great all year, but I just wanted to remind everyone how good they are. New specials almost every day and a friendly atmosphere. Total hometown cafe vibe but with fine dining style comfort food. They’re open until 3:00 p.m. and closed on Sunday.
In Eastside news, the bodacious All Day Baby has transformed or brought back a concept from 2016. Meet Tet A Tet:
“Tet-a-Tet is Vietnamese food with some Latin flair by Chef Jonathan Whitener. Chef grew up in Orange County in the heart of Little Saigon.
Tet-a-Tet celebrates the partnership between Lien Ta and Chef Jonathan Whitener — two friends who helped each pursue a dream restaurant in 2016. And again in 2019. Every year, we celebrate “Tet,” Vietnamese Lunar New Year, and serve JW’s infamous veal tonnato rolls at Here’s Looking At You. Tet-a-Tet was a brief three-week pop-up in 2016, and now it returns, as a new, full-fledged “restaurant” inside All Day Baby at night.”
“Tết (Vietnamese): The name for Lunar New Year in Vietnamese. It is the biggest holiday of the year. People often take two weeks off from work to party! Oftentimes, birthdays are not celebrated in Vietnam; instead, Tet is considered everyone’s birthday — everyone turning a year older together.
Tête-à-tête (French): “Face to face,” a private conversation between two people.”
Also, the restaurant opened on the birthday of Virgo Restauranteur Queen Lien Ta. You can still wish her a belated happy birthday.
I haven’t been to Tet A Tet yet, but I know that both Here’s Looking At You and All Day Baby rule, so I expect this will too. It’s got the ace pastry/dessert chef Thessa Diadem on dessert and I am already eyeing the coconut paletas and other sweets.
Book here.
Just have to note that it is Virgo Street Pasta King Diego Argoti aka Estrano’s birthday today, so go give Chef some happy birthday wishes.
